Spanish Students- July 2013

Placed with Agtarap family. 15 years old.  He lives in Lugo with his parents, older sister and younger brother.  His father is a notary and his mom is a housewife.  He loves sports, especially soccer.  He used to play tennis a lot, but has recently stopped.  He loves listening to music, one of his favorite bands is Coldplay.  He plays piano and electric guitar, as well. He is a happy, active, cheerful person.  He likes going out with friends, watching movies, and traveling.  He is interested in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, but his favorite subjects are Math & English.  He has dreamed about coming to California for the beautiful cities, big beaches and Theme Parks.  He is grateful to his host family for inviting him in to their home.  He prefers to be in a home without reptiles or cats.

Placed with Astorga family. 16 years old.  He lives in Valladolid with his parents.  His father is a doctor and his mother is a lawyer.  He has 2 older sisters and a dog.  He is a funny person who is a little shy at first, but very friendly after that.  He is very interested in learning about the California lifestyle.  He loves skateboarding, and would love to visit some of the skate parks here.  He likes hanging out with friends and meeting new people.  He is excited to learn to surf on the beaches of California and he is very happy to come here.

Placed with Boyd family.   14 years old.  He lives in Las Rozas (near Madrid) with his parents, who are both doctors, and his 15 year old sister.  He likes to play soccer, tennis, go skiing, and bike riding.  He goes to a catholic school and practices Catholicism at home.  He is a clean boy and likes to help his parents out around the house.  He likes most foods.  His friends say he is nice and fun.  He likes meeting new people and getting to know them.  He hopes to learn a lot of English and the American way of life, during his stay.  He looks forward to meeting his new host family.

Placed with the Budman family again!  He will be staying with the same host family as he did the past 2 years.

Placed with Cherry family. 14 years old.  He lives in Lugo with his mother, who is a doctor.  He is cheerful, funny and chatty.  His first days, he will be shy, but then he will be very extroverted.  He loves hanging out with friends, doing sports, nature and animals.  He plays volleyball 5 times per week.  He likes all types of food, but loves fast-food.   He spent some time last summer in Ireland with a host family.  He has never traveled outside of Europe, so he is very excited to come to California.  He has a good level of English, but wants to learn more by communicating with his host family.

Placed with Collins family. 13 years old, she will be 14 on July 4!  She lives in Burgos with her parents.  She has a 20 year old brother who attends University in Madrid.  She likes rhythmic gymnastics, listening to music, going for walks with friends, shopping, and chatting.  She is sociable and friendly.  She loves traveling.  This is her first time to America, and she’s excited to share her summer holiday with her host family.  She wants to learn a lot about American lifestyle and culture, and meet new friends.

Placed with Deguzman family. 14 years old.  He lives in Valladolid with his parents and younger sister.  He is very mature and would like to be with a family with teenager(s) that are older than him.  He is a sympathetic, social person.  He loves sports, his favorite sports are skateboarding and surfing.  He has surfed since he was 11.  He loves pets, like dogs and cats.  He is looking forward to coming to California because he likes the lifestyle, and because he wants to enjoy his summer and learn English.

Placed with deRoulet family. 17 years old.  Daniel will be staying with a host family that he met 2 years ago when he was last in this program.

Placed with d'Heilly family. 16 years old.  She lives in Barcelona with her parents and older sister.  Her father is a lawyer and her mother is a housewife.  She plays basketball at school, rides bikes, and loves skating!  Her family lives near the beach and they like to go sailing.  She is excited to learn to surf in California!

Placed with Elsmore family again! Ignacio will be staying with the same host family that he stayed with last summer.

Placed with Foust family. 17 years old.  He lives in Valladolid with his parents, older brother and younger sister.  His father is an engineer and his mother is a nurse.  He is a good student, and his favorite subjects are math, physics and technology.  He would like to get a degree in engineering and go into the research field.  He's a very active person and enjoys doing activities.  His hobbies are videogames, music, reading and sports.  He is very excited about visiting the USA for the first time, and would like to thank his host family for this opportunity!

Placed with Gillette family. 14 years old.  She lives in Madrid with her parents and 15 year old brother.  She enjoys having fun with her family and friends.  She is a very tidy person.  She enjoys skiing and surfing.  She likes animals.  She likes studying languages and is studying French too.  Even though her English level is advanced, she hopes to improve it while here.  She chose to come to California as she thinks it's a beautiful state and she is looking forward to surfing here.  She hopes to enjoy her summer with her host family.

Placed with Glauch family. 13 years old.  She lives in Madrid with her parents, 17 year old sister (who will also be joining this program) and 10 year old brother.  Her mother is a lawyer.  She likes sports like surfing and paddle (a Spanish game similar to tennis).  She enjoys reading, spending time with her family and friends, listening to music and watching tv.  She is very excited about coming to California… the nice family, the excursions, the beach, California!!  She is thankful to her new host family for choosing her.

Placed with Gomez family.  15 years old.  He lives in Valladolid with his parents.  His father is a bank employee and his mother is a civil servant.  He also has a 20 year old sister.  He is a bit shy at first.  This is his first trip to the US and he is excited to improve his English and learn about American culture.  He likes sports and plays tennis, as well as basketball.  He likes listening to music, playing videogames, reading, and being with friends.  He wants to thank his host family for welcoming him in their home.

Placed with Graham family. 16 years old... his 16th birthday is during this program, on July 9th!  He lives in Badajoz with his parents.  His father is a dentist and his mother is a doctor.  He is a very polite, kind boy returning from last year.   He absolutely loves soccer!

Placed with Grubb family. Elena will be staying with the same host family that she stayed with last Summer!

Placed with Harrington family.  14 years old.  She lives in Madrid with her mother and older sister and brother.   She is very close to her mother, who is an attorney.  Her father is deceased.  She loves animals, especially dogs!  She likes going to the beach, and is looking forward to learning to surf.  She likes shopping, going to the cinema, swimming, and cooking.  She is into music, especially pop music.  She is tenderhearted and loves hugs!  She would like to be in a family with a girl near her age.

Placed with Hoehn family. 17 years old.  She lives in Madrid with her parents, 13 year old sister (who will also be joining this program) and 10 year old brother.  Her mother is a lawyer and her father loves sports.  She loves playing piano, playing guitar, and singing.  She likes sports.  She enjoys relaxing at the beach, cooking, and going to the movies.  She likes children and wants to be a pediatrician.  She is really looking forward to coming to California.

Placed with Hummel family. 17 years old.  He lives in Madrid with his family.  He likes sports, particularly tennis and basketball and loves the NBA.  He also likes video games and hanging out with friends.  He likes American food (like burgers, ribs and friend chicken).  He is interested in American history.  He was in our program last summer and enjoyed it so much that he is returning again this summer.

Placed with Irribarren family. 16 years old.  He lives in Burgos with his parents and younger sister.  His father is a businessman and his mother is a bookkeeper.  He went to Seattle 2 summers ago and enjoyed it, but is even more excited about coming to California… better weather and beaches!  He likes skateboarding, surfing,  body boarding, and playing guitar.

Placed with Jimenez family again! Marta will be staying with the same host family that she stayed with last Summer!

Placed with Johnson family.   14 years old.  Lives in Madrid with her parents and 8 year old brother.  Her father is an officer in the Spanish Navy and mother is an English teacher.  She is very excited about staying with a host family in California.  She is very keen on surfing.  She took classes last summer and is already hooked.  She is sociable and quite cheerful.  She enjoys being with her friends.  She’s sweet, affectionate and always in a good mood.  She loves animals, especially horses and dogs.  She enjoys reading, movies, shopping and cooking with her mum.  She loves visiting new places, meeting new people, and learning other languages and cultures.  She likes sports, but doesn’t get to play them as often as she’d like.  She is looking forward to meeting her new family!

Placed with Jones family. 15 years old.  She lives in Grinon with her parents.  She has a 20 year old sister that studies at the university.  Her father is in the army and her mother is a beautician.  She has a dog, but is allergic to cats.  She likes sports, especially ice skating.  She also likes acting (theater), watching movies, and swimming.  She is a very friendly person. She would like to stay with a host family with a daughter near her age.   This is her first time to the USA,  and she is looking forward to the summer and meeting her new host family.

Placed with Killeen family. 14 years old.  She lives in Lugo with her parents and brother.  Her father is a factory owner.  Her favorite subjects are Math, Spanish, and Science.   She loves her family and is very close to her brother.  She loves music, reading, sports, dance and gymnastics.  She is an active girl who is funny, cheerful, nice and friendly.  She loves going shopping and she loves animals (especially dogs and cats).  Her favorite foods are pizza, pasta and chocolate.  She is excited to travel to California, visit lots of places and have a nice experience with her host family.

Placed with Latchford family. 15 years old.  Her nickname is Tita.  She lives in Lugo with her parents and 17 year old sister.  Her father is a University Professor and Pharmacist, and mother is a teacher.  She is energetic, curious, funny, friendly, and sometimes a little shy.  She likes sports, especially playing tennis, basketball, and skiing.  This will be her first time surfing. She likes hanging out with friends, going to the cinema, to the pool, out to eat, or to take photos.  Her friend Clara will be joining her on this trip.  She loves traveling and has been to many places.  She loves animals, especially small dogs and cats.  She loves music, and used to play the piano.

Placed with Long family. 15 years old.  She lives in Lugo with her parents and sister.  Her father studied law and is a notary, and mother is an English teacher.  She has two dogs that she loves.  She is outgoing, cheerful and active.  She likes hanging out with friends, watching movies and talking.  She likes traveling, riding bikes, rollerblading, walking her dogs, swimming, surfing, and paddle.  She likes shopping, going to the beach, and dancing.  She likes chocolate, pizza, and pasta, but sometimes she prefers healthy food, like vegetables. Her favorite subjects are math and English.  Her friend Teresa will be joining her on this trip.  She is excited to learn about her American family and culture.

Placed with Matrone family.   15 years old.  She lives in Burgos with her parents and 19 year old sister.  Her father is a lawyer and her mother works in administration.  She loves history & art.    She loves going to the movies, listening to music, swimming, hiking, dancing and being with friends.  She also loves fashion and shopping.  She loves animals and would like to be in a home with animals, because she doesn't have any in her home.  She loves to travel and is very excited to come to California as this will be her first time to the USA.  She can't wait to meet her new host family.

Placed with Mosko family. 15 years old.  She lives in Madrid with her parents and 17 year old brother.  Her father is a Veterinarian and mother is a doctor.  Her English level is advanced.  She loves music and plays the oboe and a little piano.  She spends 8 hour each week at a music conservatory.  She loves singing, dancing, acting and swimming and playing tennis.  She loves animals, especially ones that she can play with.  She’s very responsible and sociable, and likes going out with friends. She’s been to the US a few times.  She’s looking forward to meeting her new host family.

Placed with Perkins family. 33 years old.  He lives in Burgos and is a teacher of English & Spanish at the Marista school.  He taught for 6 years in a school in England, so his English is very good.  He considers himself a nice, hard-working, positive and easy-going person.  He is an occasional smoker, but will refrain if requested.

Placed with Pollock family. 17 years old.  She lives in Madrid with her parents, brother and little dog.  Her parents are both bank employees.  She has taken surf lessons in the north of Spain and loved it!  When she found out about our program and learning to surf in California, she couldn't say no!  She also likes to play basketball, listen to music, and hang out with friends.  She is a very active girl who always wants to try new experiences, food, activities and overcome any challenge.  She is also outgoing and funny.  She is excited to spend great moments with her host family, learn more English, and enjoy surfing in California.

Placed with Quaranta family. 14 years old.  She lives in Lugo with her parents and 2 brothers.  Her father is a lawyer and her mother is a chemist.  She is an active person, who is fun, cheerful, happy, outgoing, and talkative.  She loves listening to music, her favorite group is Sum 41.  She loves sports, dance, and athletics.  She has   been in 2 Championships, running the 100 metre and jumping hurdles.  Last year, she started to play the guitar.  Friends and family are the most important in her life. She likes reading, shopping,    fashion  and taking lots of photos.  She is a good student, her favorite subjects are English, Math, Spanish and Science.  She is very excited about coming to California  and hopes to have a great time with her host family.

Placed with Rawlings family. 13 years old.  He lives in Sopelana with his parents.  He also has a 19 year old bother and 21 year old sister.  His father is a lawyer and his mother is a housewife.  His English level is advanced.  He has 2 passions... surfing and soccer.

Placed with Reiman family. 14 years old.  She lives in Bilbao with her parents and younger sister.  Her father is a lawyer and her mother is an economist.  She loves skiing, swimming, and the beach.  She went to Minnesota last summer, and is very excited to come to California this summer.  She wants to be in a host family with a girl near the same age.

Placed with Rondo family 29 years old.  She lives in Burgos and is a teacher at the Marista school.  She is easy-going, trustworthy, confident and responsible.  She connects easily with people.  She does not smoke and does not want to be in a home with a smoker.

Placed with Sleight family. 16 years old. She lives in Gijon with her parents and 19 year old brother.  Her father is a Banker and mother is a Teacher.  She is quite friendly and outgoing, but a little shy at first.  She loves hanging out with friends and meeting new people.  She loves music, shopping, movies, writing and traveling.  She likes sports and plays volleyball on her school team.  Her favorite foods are Mexican, Italian, and fast food, but she doesn’t care for fish or vegetables.  She loves learning languages and is studying English and French.  She spent some time in New Jersey last summer and is looking forward to West Coast living.  Even though her English level is advanced, she is still hoping to improve her English.  She is looking forward to meeting her new American family.

Placed with Tabet family. 15 years old.  He lives in Badajoz with his parents and 11 year old sister.  His father is an Economist and his mother is a Chemist.  This is his 2^nd time in the USA.  He spent 4 weeks in Boston last summer.  He likes sports and has surfed in Portugal.  He also likes the beach, movies, tv, reading, and going out with friends.  He likes all kinds of food.  He looks forward to getting to know his new American family.

Placed with Terral family.   She is 15 years old, and lives in Badajoz with her parents and 13 year old sister.  Her father is an Economist and mother is a doctor.  Volleyball is her favorite sport and she plays on her school team.  She also loves swimming and traveling.  She spends a lot of time on weekends with her family.  She loves math & biology, and is the best student in her class.  She’s coming to California to improve her English, meet new people, and learn more about life in the USA.  She is very excited, as this will be her first time to the US and is sure it’ll be the best experience in her life.  She is looking forward to meeting her new host family and is very thankful for the opportunity to live with you.

Placed with Thomas family again! Javier will be staying with the same host family that he stayed with last summer.

Placed with Thompson family.   16 years old.  He lives in Badajoz with his parents and 2 sisters (14 & 18 years old).  His father is a Pharmacist and mother is a Biologist.  His nickname is Pepe.  He has been to England and he enjoyed it, but he thinks the USA will be better. He loves sports, and plays soccer.  He skis in the Winter and also likes swimming.  He likes pets, but only has a Canary.  He loves playing videogames and going out with friends.  He gets good grades in school.  He likes most foods.  He is looking forward to learning to surf, living in the USA and spending time with his host family.

Placed with Vansant family. 19 years old.  He lives in Madrid.  He is Catholic and would really like to be with a family that attends mass on Sundays.  He is the sixth of 11 children in his family.  He is studying Communications at the University, as he would like to work in the tv or movie industry.  He loves soccer, basketball and all kinds of sports.  He is very excited about visiting California, visiting Hollywood and Universal studios, as well as practicing his English and learning more about American people.

Placed with Van Zanten family. 17 years old.   He lives in Badajoz with his parents and older sister.  His father is a doctor and his mother is a nurse.  He has Celiac disease, so he must have a Gluten Free diet.  His English level is advanced.  He is generous, friendly, and funny.  He loves to make people laugh and likes having fun with his family and friends.  He likes watching movies and playing all sports.  He’s a very good swimmer and soccer player, but also knows how to play volleyball, basketball, and baseball.  He spent a month in a similar program in Michigan last year and really enjoyed it, so, he’s excited about coming to California this summer.

Placed with Villaruz family. 16 years old.  She lives in Segovia with her parents who are both doctors, and her older brother.  She is a very happy & sociable girl, who likes learning new things and meeting new people.  She is good at science and English.  She likes going out with friends, going shopping, playing sports and going to the gym. She likes eating healthy foods and rarely eats fast-food.  She loves animals, especially dogs and horses.  She loves music, her favorite singer is Chris Brown… she also likes dance & house music.  She has spent a month of the last 3 summers in Ireland, Florida and Canada.  She hopes to become more fluent in her English on this trip, as well as do lots of things with her host family.

Placed with the Watson family. 13 years old.  Lives in Madrid with her parents and 15 year old sister.  She loves dancing and singing.  She does Zumba class every week.   She loves Padel tennis.

Placed with Witherspoon family. 16 years old (will turn 17 on July 19... during the program!)  He lives in Madrid with his parents and 2 sisters.  His father is a TV Media Director and his mother is a Consulting Director.  His English level is advanced.  He loves soccer & wakeboarding.  He is sociable and would like to have a host family with a boy his age.  He loves to travel and experience the different ways of life.  He promises his host family that they will not be bored with him!
